LOVES PARK, ILL. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Rockford Rivets season ended a week and a half ago, but the fun at Rivets Stadium continued into Saturday evening. The Rivets held their second Legends Softball Game.

Former Cubs Mickey Morandini, Derrek Lee, Mitch Williams, Michael Barrett and Bobby Dernier signed autographs for the fans before taking the field for the game. Former White Sox players Steve Lyons and Bobby Thigpen also suited up.

Local celebrities, many of them my co-workers at WTVO 17 and Fox 39, also played in the game.

It was a tight game until the sixth inning when former Lee, the former Cubs’ slugger, belted two home runs over the Giant wall in left field helping his team put 12 runs on the board that inning .

Lee’s team won the game 25-16. Lee was named the MVP. One of the fans in attendance Chris Anthony of Machesney Park hunted down both of Lee’s home run balls. Anthony is a big Cubs fan, so he came away with two great souvenirs which Lee autographed for him. It was a night Anthony will never forget.

Part of the proceeds from this event will go towards the local Boys & Girls Club.
