Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins kept receipts from top NFL executives suggesting he'd lost a step on the football field.

The talk started last offseason after the five-time Pro Bowler was released by the Arizona Cardinals. He had gone back-to-back seasons with no more than 717 yards receiving.

That elicited one anonymous NFL executive to tell Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer that Hopkins didn't have much left in the tank.

"He can't run anymore," said one executive.

Another executive suggested Hopkins no longer had the ability to separate from defenders, and he was "not much of a deep threat."

They both were ultimately proven wrong after the 32-year-old receiver signed with the Tennessee Titans and put up 1,057 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his first year with the team.

"Remember the articles from so called top executives saying I cant play anymore, In Ran [Carthon] We trust," Hopkins posted on social media Thursday.

Hopkins is still a savvy wide receiver who depends on more than pure athletic prowess to make an impact on the football field.

It's important to note that he only played in 10 games in each of his last two seasons in Arizona. If he played for the entire year in those scenarios, he might have continued his run of 1,000-plus yards receiving.

Even in the twilight of his career, Hopkins is still better than most NFL receivers. He had more in the tank than originally believed, and now, he's making skeptics eat their words for it.
