NASHVILLE - Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis showed flashes of greatness during his rookie 2023 season that left a lot of people excited about his future. But not all was sunshine and roses for Music City's young quarterback.

While Levis was fourth best in the NFL in big-time throws (5.9% per Pro Football Focus ), he was also third worst in turnover-worthy plays (4.5%). The former Kentucky Wildcats quarterback was also dead last amongst qualified quarterbacks in completion percentage (58.4%) with most of the league's franchise QBs well into the 60s.

But not all of Levis' numbers can be held against him. Statistics such as completion percentage are never entirely on the quarterback. In fact, analytics from Warren Sharp and SharpFootballAnalysis.com recently showed how Will Levis should not be blamed for his worst 2023 statistic.

Sharp went back and calculated the cause of every incompletion from the 2023 season and came back with data for every team and QB. According to Sharp, 21 percent of the Titans' incompletions from 2023 were due to "receiver error." These are plays where the wide receiver's mistake in route running or pass catching are to blame instead of the quarterback delivering the football.

21 percent was tied for the second highest total in the league. That means Levis and Ryan Tannehill had to deal with wide receiver error more frequently than almost every other quarterback in the sport. It's no wonder Levis ended up dead last in completion percentage.

Furthermore, Sharp's data also calculated the quarterbacks who threw the most incompletions due to "inaccurate passes." Levis came in at an impressively low 27.4 percent, which was the 9th best among 41 qualified QBs.

The Titans receiving corps was nothing write home about in 2023. Outside of DeAndre Hopkins, the group really struggled and it was Chris Moore, a career special teamer, that was Tennessee's second most impactful wide out.

Perhaps that will all change this fall. The Titans signed Calvin Ridley to a large contract and brought in veteran Tyler Boyd to give Levis plenty of reliable options to throw to. That said, Ridley was on a Jacksonville team last season that was the only team with more "receiver errors" than Tennessee.

But if Levis gets more help, we should see a large increase in his efficiency and overall production.
