NASHVILLE — This time next week, the Tennessee Titans will have opened training camp for the 2024 season and the competition will begin.

A roster of 90 players will be cut down to 53 before the regular season. That leaves every player fighting for a roster spot and auditioning for 31 other organizations around the NFL.

Before camp kicks off, it’s time we preview Tennessee’s depth chart and who’s expected to make the roster. Let’s start with the wide receivers.

    Depth Chart

    1. DeAndre Hopkins

    2. Calvin Ridley

    3. Tyler Boyd

    4. Treylon Burks

    5. Jha'Quan Jackson

    6. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine

Brian Callahan is no stranger to keeping six wide receivers on the 53 man roster. The Bengals kept six receivers in both 2021 and 2023 when they had quality depth at the position. Given the depth the Titans have acquired throughout this offseason and Callahan’s offensive background, I’m expecting six to be the number this fall.

Tennessee has a number of talented wide outs with varying skillsets and experience levels.

Hopkins, Ridley, Burks, and Boyd are all easy locks. Behind them, the special teams value of Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Jha’Quan Jackson makes me inclined to believe they’ll make the cut as well. It's hard to imagine there's a seventh spot up for grabs.

    Cut Candidates

    - Kyle Philips

    - Mason Kinsey

    - Kearis Jackson

    - Tre'Shaun Harrison

    - Bryce Oliver

    - Sam Schnee

That leaves a number of notable names on the outside looking in as players who might get cut and return on the practice squad.

Kearis Jackson, Kyle Philips, and Mason Kinsey are all in this group. I’d think one of these three would have to really impress as a dual returner to climb the ranks. But if any of them have a shot of making the roster because of offensive output, it would be Philips. I'm still interested in what he can bring to the table when fully healthy.

    Injured/PUP List

    - Colton Dowell

Hometown hero and former UT Martin wide receiver Colton Dowell had a relatively quiet rookie season after being drafted by the Titans in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Dowell caught just one pass for three yards on the season and hardly saw the field on offense. He did, however, play in 10 of Tennessee's 17 games because of his impact on special teams.

I think Dowell would have been an interesting player to watch for development during training camp, but the 25-year-old tore the ACL and meniscus in his right knee during a Week 17 loss to the Texans. The injury is expected to keep him out of camp and most of the 2024 regular season, so I'd expect him to start on the PUP list or Injured Reserve, but remain with the organization.
