Grade for Tennessee Titans signing Quandre Diggs in NFL free agency

General manager Ran Carthon continues to cook this offseason after the Tennessee Titans made yet another significant addition, with the team signing veteran safety Quandre Diggs.

Diggs himself confirmed the signing , and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Titans will pay him a base salary of $3 million that can go up to as much as $5 million if he hits $1 million in incentives for both playing time and performance.

Diggs has become one of the better safeties in the NFL during his nine-year career, which makes this signing a steal. He spent the past four-plus seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, where he earned three Pro Bowl nods and totaled over 1,000 snaps played in every season since 2020.

While on the surface this signing might seem like overkill after the Titans inked Jamal Adams last month, it really isn't.

For starters, Amani Hooker has had issues staying healthy during his career, so this further pads the safeties room. Adding to that, Adams is likely to be a sub-package player, which would have left Elijah Molden, who has his own question marks, serving in a key role. He now gets pushed the No. 4, at best, on the depth chart.

The addition of Diggs gives the Titans two good to very good starters at the position and allows them to be more flexible with Adams, who will likely be used in the box mostly, where he thrives, especially when blitzing.

When you combine those three with cornerbacks L'Jarius Sneed, Chiodbe Awuzie and Roger McCreary, the Titans have one of the best — if not the best — secondary groups in the entire league.

Making this deal even better is the fact that it has minimal impact on the salary cap. Over the Cap hasn't updated Tennessee's number, but Carthon and Co. will still have about $21 million in cap space to work with. Also, it's only a one-year deal, so the Diggs signing won't have an impact in 2025.

This is just one of those moves that really has no negatives, and our grade reflects that.
