North Tulsa community Garden citizen input

Neo Bree
Hello Tulsa Reddit! My wife and I’s company specializes in buying vacant and distressed buildings in North Tulsa and remodeling them into affordable housing. Last year we bought a really cool old building that was on the brink of getting condemned by the city. Luckily, we were able to save the building, and after our remodel, it will be a beautiful 12 unit affordable complex. we have lots of potential with this property. We have a really really big yard. One plan we had was to make a dog run or small dog park for the residents. We wanted to do a community playground for the neighborhood kids, but our insurance company said absolutely not. So now we are thinking either community vegetable garden or maybe just plant a bunch of native pollinators and other grass and wildflowers that don’t have to be mowed. I really would love to do a community garden on the lot though. Not just for our residents to use but anyone in the community that wants to garden or people that just need food. We also have a large basement area that I thought would be perfect for maybe building some raised flowerbeds and bring grow lights in the winter to do a winter community garden. we do plan on putting storage cages in the basement so the residents have free extra storage but I think there’s enough room to accommodate basement winter gardens if that’s even possible. What are your thoughts on this? How do we go about putting something like this together? Is there any group in town that is already doing community gardens? I have the dream and the land. I just don’t know how to implement it. I would love to hear from you all on what you think and what the best path forward is. Also if we did get this up and running, would anybody be interested in helping to organize/work in the community garden?
