Caledonia’s Wait, Chatfield’s Mauseth Receive Big Coaching Awards
Caledonia/Spring Grove boys track and field coach Reese Wait, pictured above left (far left) with his state title winning team, recently received the U.S. Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association boys track and field Coach of the Year Award for Minnesota. Said award is sponsored by the Marine Corp and recognizes the best high boys and girls coaches, at both the state and national levels, in cross country and track and field. Wait guided a small Warrior contingent to the state Class A team title, as they had two relay state champions, an individual state champ, plus five other podium makers amidst a squad that sent seven guys to state.
Two Teams, 19 Individuals Compete at National Trap Championships
Mabel-Canton finished 28th and Spring Grove 42nd among 261 qualifying high school trap teams at the 2024 national tournament in Mason, Mich/, on July 12-14. That put the Cougars among the top 11% and the Lions among the top 16% of the top teams in the nation. Individually, Spring Grove’s Taylor Reinhardt ranked 12th among 257 girls, and Rushford-Peterson’s Samual Finley 113th among 1,374 boys. Thus, Reinhardt finished among the top 5% of all the girls and Finley among the top 8% of the guys.
Waukon softball team plays to 8-20 record in 2024 under first-year head coach
The 2024 Waukon softball season played out to an 8-20 overall record in the inaugural year for new head coach Dustin Rounds. That season mark included a 2-13 result in Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) play that placed the Lady Indians in sixth place in the final NEIC standings before having their season ended in the opening round of Class 3A Regional Tournament play with a loss at the home of fellow NEIC squad New Hampton.
Waukon High School Football Camp August 5-9 for freshmen-seniors
The Waukon High School football coaching staff is hosting its 2024 Waukon Indian Football Camp Monday through Friday, August 5-9. The camp, run by the Waukon coaching staff, is a non-contact camp aimed at teaching fundamental instruction in offensive/defensive techniques necessary for the execution of Waukon’s system of play.
