NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A New Bedford man police are calling a “career criminal” is now in custody on nearly two dozen counts.

Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of 47-year-old Daniel Pedro in connection with a series of commercial truck break-ins.

Detectives allege Pedro stole tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of tools and air compressors. When officers pulled him over on July 10, police said he had numerous tools in the rear of his truck.

The break-ins happened during the overnight hours and the suspect smashed the trucks’ windows to get inside, according to police.

Pedro is currently facing the following charges:

    • Breaking and entering into a vehicle (12 counts)
    • Larceny over $1,200 (8 counts)
    • Larceny of a motor vehicle
    • Receiving stolen property over $1,200
    • Operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license

Police said the investigation is ongoing and more charges may follow.

Anyone who has recently had tools or other equipment stolen from a vehicle is asked to call Det. Matthew Sylvia at (508) 991-6300 ext. 79531.

Police pointed out that Pedro has an “extensive criminal history,” with 120 arraignments on his adult record. While some of those cases were dismissed, others led to convictions, including 13 on breaking-and-entering charges.

Pedro was ordered held on $30,000 bail following his arraignment.
