Vape disposal boxes available in Putnam
CARMEL- The Prevention Council of Putnam has initiated a system allowing for the safe disposal of vape products countywide. Despite warnings of the dangers of vaping, the Centers for Disease Control reported recently, e-cigarette monthly unit sales increased by 46.6 percent—from 15.5 million units in January of 2020, to 22.7 million units in December of 2023; prefilled device sales decreased, while disposable device sales increased; and sales of sweet, youth-appealing flavors increased.
Four houses proposed at site of former Spring Hill Road animal rescue
MONROE, CT — Neighbors of the SPCA of Connecticut Animal Shelter railed against the facility at 359 Spring Hill Road when it first opened in the early 2000s, but the dog kennels were a grandfathered use. The owner, Frederick Acker, fought with town officials over the number of dogs allowed on the property over the years and, due to financial woes, the shelter closed down for good last year.
North Salem Board of Ed Appoints Acting Superintendent
NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The North Salem Board of Education announced today that they have appointed an acting schools superintendent while the current one, Dr. Duncan Wilson, is on administrative leave. Kimco Heads Back to P&Z Tonight with Approval from the Inland Wetlands Commission
Kimco’s proposal to redevelop the southern half of its Wilton Center campus (at 21 River Rd.) into a five-story, 169-unit mixed-use complex moved one step closer to the finish line on Thursday, July 11, when the Inland Wetlands Commission voted to approve the application. The project is currently being reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Commission and could go to public comment and even a vote by P&Z as early as tonight, Monday, July 22.
