    Former 'The Voice' contestant and Mohawk Valley native to perform at New York State Fair

    New Hartford’s own Tom Nitti – a former contestant on NBC’s “The Voice” - will perform at The Great New York State Fair next month.

    Fair officials announced the performance, set for 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 29 at Chevy Court, in a statement Friday afternoon.

    “Not only is Tom Nitti a successful, self-made country star, but he is also someone who actively gives back to communities throughout New York through his commitment to service,” said Fair Director Julie LaFave, in a statement.

    “We are very proud to welcome him to Chevy Court and look forward to seeing one of New York’s own perform at The Great New York State Fair this summer.”

    About Nitti

    Nitti is a New York State Trooper in the Mohawk Valley and was a contestant on Team Reba on Season 24 of "The Voice."

    He joined the military after graduating from high school. He joined the military and was deployed to Afghanistan.

    Nitti suffered a serious brain injury after taking mortar fire during combat. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service.

    He joined the state police once he returned home, working in law enforcement, just like his father.

    The Voice

    Nitti was on Reba McEntire’s team for Season 23 of “The Voice.” He was supposed to be on the previous season but deferred a year due to timing issues with requesting a leave of absence from his job.

    He was one of the six finalists on Team Reba but left the show over family issues.

    “The producers on the show treat you like gold,” said Nitti, during an exclusive interview with the OD in December on his leaving the show. "And Reba is the most genuine person – she is the same on TV as she is in real life.

    About the fair

    The fair starts Wednesday, August 21, and runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 2. All concerts and entertainment are included in the price of admission.

    In total, the fair’s Chevrolet Music Series will feature 39 national recording acts. There will be a daily 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. concert at Chevy Court (located near Gate 1), and a daily 8 p.m. concert at Suburban Park (located on the western end of the Fairgrounds, beyond the Midway).
