New Orleans man convicted of killing two people in ‘Burgundy Massacre’

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — A jury found a New Orleans man guilty of two-counts of causing a death through the use of a firearm in connection to the 2014 “Burgundy Massacre” on Thursday, June 30.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Blair Taylor shot and killed two people on Burgundy Street on Aug. 10, 2014. Taylor and his two co-conspirators went to Burgundy Street to retaliate against a drug dealer who “had stolen drugs from the mother of one of Taylor’s co-conspirators.”
Upon their arrival on Burgundy Street, Taylor “opened fire on the crowd with a rifle” and five people were injured, which included a 2-year-old and 4-year-old. Additionally, one of Taylor’s co-conspirators killed the drug dealer.
According to the U.S. attorney’s office, Taylor and one of his co-conspirators were found guilty on two counts of second degree murder and five counts of attempted second-degree murder in 2017. However, the jury delivered a non-unanimous verdict, which was deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, and they were given new trials.
Taylor was retried on the charges in October 2022 but was found not guilty. Following this verdict, a federal jury investigated the murders and later charged Taylor again.
He faces a maximum sentence to life in prison, upward of a $250,000 fine and up to five years of supervised release. Taylor’s sentencing will take place on Thursday, Oct. 3.
