UFL team makes dumb decision by drafting a current Saints rookie

Birmingham Stallions select Saints rookie TE Dallin Holker in 2024 UFL college draft

With Juwan Johnson's current injury, the opportunity for Holker is even greater. Johnson is expected to be sidelined through training camp. He could miss game time, depending on his recovery.

Foster Moreau's spot on the team is locked in, and Taysom Hill is there. We all know that Taysom's role is unique, though, and Klint Kubiak has noted that he will be moved around in 2024 - once again.

Accordingly, Holker can slot in behind Moreau as a player that can compete for some snaps on offense. His athleticism and hands at his position are extremely impressive.

Hard to see Holker passing up on chance with Saints

The rookie TE has a better chance than many other young players in his scenario to, at the very least, make the practice squad. He was an undrafted free agent, but all indications point to New Orleans wanting to keep Holker in the building.

Not allowing him to join Birmingham would be a smart choice. He was their fifth pick in the UFL 2024 college draft. It may end up being a waste for them.

Holker has already made a major impression on the Saints coaching staff

"We view him as our as our eighth-round draft choice. And we view that highly. That a guy that probably should have been drafted by everyone's measure throughout the league, for some reason fell to us. And we're very fortunate to have him we're very excited to work with him." -- Clancy Barone, Saints TEs Coach via Ross Jackson

The former Colorado State playmaker was projected to go between round four and seven by many mock drafters before the 2024 NFL Draft. Many analysts thought he could land on an active roster, and as time passes, that seems more likely for he and the Saints.

I'd expect Holker to remain in New Orleans as he attempts to make a dream come true by playing in the NFL. We will see if he surprises plenty of folks and heads to the Stallions, though.
