Saints QB Makes Major Announcement About His Rare Health Scare

    By Michael Gallagher,

No one would blame New Orleans Saints quarterback Jake Haener for being rattled by his recent health scare.

The 25-year-old signal-caller informed reporters on Friday that he was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer that’s rare to see in someone as young as he is. Haener also disclosed that he’s consulting with a doctor next week to determine what his next steps will be.

“It's not going be like a life-threatening thing right now,” Haener said . “…I was kind of worried about it; my family was kind of worried about it. With these skin cancer things, if you wait, things spread, so I've just got to get it taken care of.”

Haener is the second Saints player to recently receive a cancer diagnosis this offseason. Backup tight end Foster Moreau was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma last March and was in full remission by July after undergoing treatment.

Wearing a small bandage on his face during Friday’s practice, Haener admitted that he’ll eventually have to have a procedure done on his face but he wants to delay it as long as he can.

Haener was first concerned about his condition when he discovered a small bump on his face that had grown in size. He had a biopsy done on it a week before Saints training camp started, which revealed the cancer.
