ROSELLE PARK, NJ — The borough grew a little brighter recently, as Union County Connects, a 501(c)(3) charity that advocates for safer trail networks in Union County, unveiled a brand-new mural featuring a historical rendition of the Rahway Valley Railroad Engines. Painted on the Son-Rise Document Solutions building at the outskirts of the borough, the mural welcomes travelers into Roselle Park. The mural was created by a Jersey City-based street artist, known as "Distort", who has composed many murals throughout New Jersey. UNION, NJ - Family and friends gathered together on Saturday to celebrate the 100th birthday of longtime Union resident Mary Izzo. Izzo was born on July 17, 1924. She moved from Newark to Union in 1965. She raised five children and became a consummate volunteer, including as the town's Girl Scout troop organizer, as the leader of Troop 588 for twenty years, and as a Washington Rock Girl Scout delegate. Over two hundred anglers dotted the walls of the pond at Edgemont Park for the town’s annual Fishing Derby sponsored by the Montclair’s Police Athletic League. Montclair police captain Tyrone Williams Jr., the event’s coordinator, said the fishing derby started about 15 years ago at Yantecaw Brook Park. “We outgrew that space and moved to Edgemont.
