Plainfield Police Encourage Residents to Lock Car Doors, Keep Items Out of View
PLAINFIELD, NJ — Starting Tuesday last week, the Plainfield Police Department began to encourage Plainfield residents to lock their cars and hide items from view. "Lock your cars after exiting," reads the statement that has been posted on the city's Facebook page two more times since the initial warning. "When leaving vehicles, please place all items out of view. We’re experiencing an uptick in the theft of personal items from unlocked vehicles, and we want to keep your property safe." Cross Country Unveils 2024 Schedule
Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University cross country team unveiled their seven-meet schedule for the 2024 season on Monday morning. The campaign begins on August 30, as Montclair travels to South Jersey for the Stockton Season Opener. The Red Hawks will return to Stockton two weeks later for the Osprey Open on September 14, and kick off the second month of the slate with the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, PA on October 5. Car Fire in Underground Garage at Union Stop & Shop Sunday Night
UNION, NJ – An automatic fire alerted Union firefighters to the Stop & Shop at 1201 Stuyvesant Avenue on Sunday night. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully involved vehicle on fire in the underground parking garage, causing heavy smoke. Union Fire Chief Greg Ricciardi said the store above was searched and evacuated. Firefighters stretched a hose to extinguish the fire and the sprinkler system activated, which helped smother the fire, he said. He said the business is expected to be closed until repairs are made to the sprinkler system. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
