Franklin Township: Body Recovered from Submerged Vehicle in Canal
SOMERSET, NJ - The Somerset County Dive Rescue Team recovered the body of a deceased male from a submerged vehicle in the D&R Canal, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. The Franklin Township Police Department reported a road closure on Canal Road between Elm Street and Miller Farm Road between 1:01 pm and 7:00 pm on Aug. 24. Remembering the Anderson Park Olmsted Oak
Montclair has lost Anderson Park’s historic Olmsted Oak. The majestic tree, estimated to be about 250 years old, fell down after Monday’s storm. “We are utterly heartbroken,” said Lisanne Renner, Friends of Anderson Park’s historian and co-founder. “This magnificent white oak was photographed by John Charles Olmsted in September 1904. It was a gorgeous centerpiece of this Olmsted-designed landscape and its boughs were leafy shelter for squirrels, birds and raccoons. Numerous weddings took place beneath its branches, and it holds a special place in so many hearts. Its demise drives home how important is it to steadily replant in Anderson Park, a key part of our mission.”

18-year-old killed by boat propeller near Harvey Cedars, New Jersey
HARVEY CEDARS, N.J. (CBS) -- A young woman died over the weekend after she was hit by a boat propeller off of Long Beach Island, New Jersey State Police said Monday.According to the department, 18-year-old Zeina Mahafzah, of Wayne, New Jersey, was on a raft being pulled by a boat on Sunday, Aug. 25 when she was hit by the propeller as she tried to get back on the vessel.NJ State Police said she suffered "fatal injuries" as a result of the impact, which happened just off Sunset Park in the Harvey Cedars Borough.On Monday, the Harvey Cedars Police Department said on Facebook they were working with New Jersey State Police on the investigation, and asked people to "keep the family and community in your thoughts and prayers."The fatal incident remains under investigation, according to NJ State Police.
