The attacker, Waheed Foster , who was homeless at the time, pleaded guilty earlier this month in relation to the violent incident . He will face five years of post-release supervision after serving his sentence, reports NBC.
As a result of her injuries, the woman tragically lost her right eye. Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said:"A woman was simply on her way to work when Waheed Foster, without any warning, smashed her in the head with an object, pummelled her in the head with his fists, and kicked her in the face repeatedly."
Katz added that a good Samaritan tried to intervene during the attack but was chased away by the assailant, who then continued his brutal assault. She added: "It's a miracle she's alive today after the brutal assault she endured."
Foster followed the woman as she disembarked the train at the station around 5:30am on September 20, 2022. As she ascended the stairs towards her workplace, Foster approached from behind and struck her in the head with a hard object without any provocation.
CCTV footage shows the woman attempting to flee through the station, with Foster in pursuit. He catches up to her, throws her to the ground, and proceeds to punch her in the face and stomp on her head repeatedly.
