Pegasus just can’t help itself. Everywhere you look, the bright mini-diner is doing something adorable. The sunshine-yellow paint job, string lights, a Beach Boys soundtrack—the last time we were there, they’d even drawn an avocado holding hands with a piece of toast on the chalkboard, and everyone got a Mother’s Day cookie.

Open since 1993, the scrappy-but-spirited restaurant in Bay Ridge serves breakfast and lunch that’s much better than your average diner food. Come for weekend brunch. They pull out all the stops with special menu items like peaches-and-cream french toast and avocado pesto smash. Or, get their corn beef hash and eggs with super creamy potatoes. You might have to put your name down and take a 30-minute stroll, but it’s worth it.

This is the corned beef hash for people who thought they didn’t like corned beef hash. The potatoes are super creamy, and there’s just the right amount of corned beef in them.

Peaches and Cream French Toast

You don’t see peaches on french toast that often, and they work well here with the dollop of cream. You can only get this during weekend brunch.

Avgolemono Soup

Like many of the small diners in Bay Ridge, Pegasus has some Greek in it. This is the only soup that’s available every single day, and it’s one of the best bowls of the lemon-chicken-rice soup that we’ve ever had.
