NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating vandalism at Temple Emanu-El on the Upper East Side.

Police released an image Wednesday showing the suspect, clad in a Metallica shirt, around the time of the vandalism at the nearly century-old synagogue on June 13.

According to police, the suspect drew a “red eye” on the steps of the synagogue's religious school on East 66th Street shortly after 12 a.m.

NYPD crime statistics released earlier this month show reported antisemitic crimes were up 137% in June compared to June 2023.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
