The Minnesota Vikings have already moved on from a 2023 draft pick.

Jaren Hall, a fifth-round selection by the Vikings last season, is being waived for veteran backup Brett Rypien , who was cut by the Chicago Bears two days ago.

Hall, 26, was selected out of BYU last spring, and actually made two starts for the Vikings last season following Kirk Cousins’ Achilles rupture.

Hall started on Nov. 5 against the Atlanta Falcons but left due to a concussion, which cleared a pathway for the Joshua Dobbs renaissance .

The Utah native started his second game of the season in Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers, where he was limited to a 5-for-10 passing display for 67 yards and an interception in a 33-10 loss.

The now-former Viking also had two carries for four yards and a lost fumble.

Hall actually played well this preseason, completing 28-of-46 passes, accumulating 339 yards through the air and having four touchdown passes to zero interceptions.

His release comes as a bit of a surprise to some fans, who opposed the move on X in response to the Vikings’ original post on the transaction.

“Wtf??? Why?? Jaren cooked last game!” one fan wrote .

“What is the point of this?” another fan questioned .

Another responded with a quote tweet of a graph indicating that Hall led all quarterbacks in preseason passer rating at 138.3 .

Rypien, who replaces Hall, is the nephew of Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien, but he himself hasn’t been great as a pro, though he continues to hang around.

The younger Rypien, 28, is now on his sixth team in two years.

Initially, he signed with the Denver Broncos in 2019 as an undrafted rookie and was buried in the depth chart, making three starts in four years, before stints with the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and the Bears.

In Rypien’s career, he’s 98-for-168 for 950 passing yards, four touchdowns and nine interceptions.

In total, he’s made four starts and has appeared in 10 games under center.
