Part of South College Avenue will close for six nights starting next week as part of the ongoing Interstate 95 interchange project.

The road will be closed in both directions between Old Baltimore Pike and I-95 on July 8, 9, 10, 11, 15 and 16.

The closure will be in effect between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night to allow workers to install steel girders.

The ramp from northbound South College Avenue to northbound I-95 will be closed as well.

Additional lane closures will be in effect on both northbound and southbound South College Avenue approaching the closure, and some traffic turning movements on eastbound and westbound Old Baltimore Pike will be restricted during the overnight closures.

The interchange project involves building new flyover ramps from southbound Del. 896 to northbound I-95 and from southbound I-95 to southbound Del. 896. The flyovers will increase the distance between exit and entrance ramps, reducing the traffic weaving that causes crashes at the current interchange.

The project also includes widening a one-mile stretch of the interstate to provide for longer acceleration and deceleration lanes, as well as upgraded lighting, rehabilitation of 10 existing bridges, the construction of six new bridges for the flyovers, and the construction of a walking and biking bridge over the interstate.

Work began last spring and will continue through 2026.
