Now leasing: The Edmond, new apartment complex in old Gannett Building in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Now leasing in Rochester, The Edmond! It’s the new name for the former Gannett Building.

There are 94 one and two-bedroom lofts, along with commercial space, following an extensive project that started over two years ago. The Democrat & Chronicle left about 10 years ago.

“This building is actually a conglomeration of 12 different buildings,” said Vice President for contractor Taylor the Builders — the contractor for the project — Fred Lehmann. “They were added to the complex known as the Gannett Building.”

Taylor is in their 40th year, and frequently this kind of reuse work. As this building has some historic protections, there are many preserved elements:

Brass fixtures on the first floor, stone elevator facades, the old mail system… and even The relief by Edmond Amateis, for whom the building is re-named, is intact as well.

As for the apartments, all are new but work within the confines and style of the space. Lehmann says each apartment unit is slightly different.

Other features of the building will include 500 units of self-storage on-site, community and shared spaces, a rooftop deck, fitness center, and even a first-floor dogwash.

There are two commercial spaces as well, which are currently unleashed.

There is still more work to be done, but some apartments are available for leasing by Cabot .

“This is an old building it’s downtown,” Lehmann said. “I think our downtown is about to be rejuvenated a lot… There’s other buildings that have been renovated that we’ve been part of before (and) it’s fun seeing the city come back to life.”
