Business of the Week: D & R Technical Solutions

VESTAL, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – D & R Technical Solutions is the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Week.

D & R Technical Solutions, founded in 1990, creates technical manuals, training practices, and product support for a variety of products and services.

The company creates thousands of pages of safety and training information for something like a New York City subway car, or an asphalt mixing plant.

D & R’s facility in Vestal currently employs around 40 people.

The Vice President, Andy Canzler says as technology has advanced, now a lot of their design work and training can be done electronically.

“So, we get the source data in. Our technical writers work with that source data. They work with our illustrators, and our desktop publishers, and our 3-D modelers, programmers, animators, to develop the tech manuals, then eventually the training that goes with it,” he said.

With 3D technology, D and R can create immersive training exercises and demonstrations.

Canzler says a typical training manual will take over a year to write and design, and can have thousands of pages.
