County moving forward with fire department

The Titus County Commissioners approved the contract between Fire Chief Solutions and Titus County at a recent meeting.

Back in December 2023, commissioners voted to create a county fire department and hire a consultant to assist with that creation; this followed a vote to stop contract negotiations with the City of Mount Pleasant to continue utilizing its fire department; that contract ends in October. They chose Fire Chief Solutions, led by Greg Lloyd. According to his proposal, Lloyd has worked in the fire service and emergency service delivery business for thirty years; the proposal was $56,000.

At the March 25 meeting, commissioners approved a discretionary exemption for the purchase or lease of real estate to be used as a Right-of-Way in regard to the fire department. Commissioners also approved the first payment of $15,000 to Fire Chief Solutions at the March 25 meeting. According to county judge Kent Cooper, they have started work on the department, including purchasing equipment and working on communications.
