AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Northwest Austin early Saturday morning, officials said.

Austin Police interim chief Robin Henderson said 911 began receiving calls from the scene at the Summer Grove Apartments in the 7900 block of San Felipe Boulevard, near the intersection of US 183 and McNeil Drive, just after 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

The 911 callers first reported loud music and noise from cars in the parking lot. Then, around 12:14 a.m., another 911 caller reported someone walking around with a gun; multiple callers then reported hearing gunshots. Officers were then dispatched to the scene.

The first two officers arrived on the scene at 12:20 a.m., Henderson said, and began searching the area for a disturbance. More officers arrived on the scene and joined the search, eventually finding a group of individuals in the parking lot.

Henderson said a man wearing all black stepped out from a breezeway of one of the apartment buildings, holding a gun. Officers ordered the man to show his hands and drop the gun, repeating the command in English and Spanish.

The suspect refused to comply and raised the gun towards officers, prompting two of them to open fire at approximately 12:36 a.m.

Henderson said the suspect was immediately given first aid, and was transported to a nearby hospital about 30 minutes later. He was later pronounced deceased at 1:39 a.m.

The incident was captured on the officers' body-worn cameras. Henderson said the two officers, with four years and two years of service, will be placed on administrative duty pending two investigations into the shooting.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call APD's Special Investigations Unit at 512-974-6840, or Capital Area Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.
