Palm Coast, Florida - According to the Flagler County Sheriffs Office, a distressing case of elder abuse has led to the arrest of 41-year-old Brandon Valentine, who is accused of abusing his 91-year-old grandfather. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office took Valentine into custody on Wednesday, May 1, following the emergence of incriminating video evidence.

The incident first came to light on April 14 when deputies were called to the home Valentine shared with his grandparents in the W-section of Palm Coast. Initial reports indicated that Valentine had struck his elderly grandfather. However, due to conflicting accounts from the involved parties and unclear initial video footage, no immediate action was taken. Valentine promised deputies a clearer video which he claimed would exonerate him.

“This man was responsible for caring for his elderly relative. Instead, he chose to mistreat and abuse his elderly grandfather,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Fortunately, he’s not very smart and provided the video evidence that helped our investigators confirm the allegations of abuse. I want to commend our team and our partners at DCF for helping our team to investigate this abuse. If you abuse an elderly person you are responsible for caring for, you can expect to have a room at the Green Roof Inn where you cannot abuse them again.”

The case took a decisive turn when the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) received a report from the victim’s daughter, who resides out of state, prompting further investigation. Deputy Sanders and Major Case Detective Kusek revisited the case and successfully obtained an arrest warrant from Judge Distler. The breakthrough came from a video recorded by Valentine himself, which clearly depicted him lunging at and struggling with his elderly grandfather.

Valentine has been charged with Abuse of Elderly or Disabled Adult without Great Harm and Battery on a Person Over 65. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held on a $10,000 bond.
