    John Fisher was named president of the Mississippi Funeral Directors. • J.T. Crouch was ill at the Infirmary. • A linen shower was held for the local hospital under the auspices of the Civic League.

    90 Years Ago: 1934

    Jacob Mahin died. • The home of Buck Keithley was badly damaged by fire. • Harvey Grant was injured in an auto accident near Ferriday, La.

    80 Years Ago: 1944

    Maj. L.G. Hider, former superintendent of the Vicksburg National Military Park, was visiting from Alaska. • W.N. Rogers was a patient at Mercy Hospital. • Services were held for Peter E. Harrison.

    70 Years Ago: 1954

    Paul Barrett and James Ables were elevated to captains in the Vicksburg Police Department. • Services were held for Lena Wilson, former Ruleville resident. • Claude McDougal died.

    S.H. Groome passed away. • Carrie C. Williams died. • Mr. and Mrs. George Madsen announced the birth of their daughter, Melinda. • A May festival was held at Eliza Fox Elementary School.

    Approximately $750,000 in state revenue from gambling was used to replace two bridges on Warrenton Road.
