    Baseball: Brill sweeps doubleheader over Blue Hills

    The Brill Millers swept both games of a doubleheader with the Blue Hills Beasts in Independent League action on Saturday in Brill.

    Brill outscored Blue Hills by a combined 15-0 margin with 4-0 and 11-0 victories for the Millers.

    In game one Brill scored two runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings. Rece Dietrich scored on a wild pitch and David Olson added a sacrifice fly to score the two runs in the fourth. In the fifth Bill Brown drove in Josh Halverson, who had led off the inning with a walk. Brown later scored as two straight walks loaded the bases, and then Hunter Ashlin drew a third consecutive base on balls to score the final tally for the Millers.

    Logan Hile pitched all seven innings, giving up five hits and striking out three.

    In game two the Millers sent the Beasts home after five innings with the double-digit lead. A first-inning run scored for Brill as Brown reached on an error and headed home on a RBI single from Brandon Johns.

    Brill broke open the game with a five-run second. A walk and two straight bunt singles filled the bases. Brown drove in one on a single and then Kirby Brunclik scored one with a base hit. An RBI ground out from Johns made it 5-0 and then another run scored on a sacrifice fly from Ashlin.

    A double from Joe Serbiak and single from Olson put two on the third. Later with the bases loaded Brunclik plated a run and then two runs were added on an error to make it 9-0.

    Hile tripled to open the fourth. With runners on the corners, Olson drove in one on a base hit, and later Brunclik doubled to score the final run for the Millers.

    In four innings on the mound Serbiak struck out five and allowed four hits. Olson worked a clean fifth inning with one strikeout.

    The Millers return to the diamond June 23 with a doubleheader in Brill against the Spooner Cardinals.

    Haugen Knights 10, Spooner Cardinals 4The Knights won their second consecutive contest over the Cardinals thanks to an eight-run inning during Saturday’s matchup in Haugen.

    Haugen trailed 4-0 after an inning of play but the Knights pushed across eight runs on four hits in the second for the 8-4 advantage.

    The Knights next game is June 22 at the Hayward Hawks.
