On June 20, Wake Forest High School will host the second annual Dexter Lawrence 7 on 7 Invitational.

The event includes eight high school teams from the Triangle area. There are four rounds of pool play and a championship bracket.

In last year’s event, Southeast Raleigh defeated Cardinal Gibbons and Southern Durham defeated Heritage in the semifinal round.

South Durham took the victory over Southeast Raleigh in the championship.

“Just talking to the coaches as I moved around the tournament, they thought it was great,” said Wake Forest head coach Reggie Lucas during last year’s event. “The one thing they said was that the referees were calling it more like a Friday night football game, so they didn’t let us play as much, but they loved the set up. They loved the way we moved and kept everything going. I think we have a chance to grow this bigger.”

Heritage head coach Wallace Clark said the event was much needed.

“It’s great to have a lot of Wake County teams coming out and competing today and seeing some of the teams we are going to see during the season,” said Clark last year. “It is a good, positive thing. Everything went well.”

The participating teams are Holly Springs, Panther Creek, Southeast Raleigh, Southeast Durham, Jordon and more.

This year’s event is set for June 20 at 5 p.m. at Trentini Stadium.
