Next up for city’s public art, it’s mural No. 2 at Pacana Park

Pacana Park gets a new splash of color and culture in the coming weeks.

The City of Maricopa plans another public art installation at the park this summer, this time at the fitness court just north of the playground.

This will be the second art installation at Pacana Park. Last month, Casa Grande artist Mauriel “Mory” Morejon painted a lake-themed mural in the park’s ramada.

Morejon confirmed he will not paint this newest mural, saying he hasn’t received any recent invitations.

One local artist shared her vision of what the court could look like by the end of summer. Mecca Hunter, who also serves on the city’s Cultural Affairs and Arts Committee, shared two concept renderings on social media this morning, showcasing colorful depictions of park and playground scenes.

The call for artists opened about two weeks ago for a new 32-by-7-foot wrap to grace the park’s fitness court. Applications closed at 5 p.m. today.

The city will notify the selected artist July 1.
