American Legion Post 238 Celebrates Essay Contest Winners

WOODLAND PARK, NJ - T he American Legion Post 238 celebrated Flag Day by honoring the Americanism essay contest winners.

"Having these students write about 'What Freedom Means to Me' gives them the foundation to better understand Civics and the importance of Democracy," Mayor Tracy Kallert said.

The essay contest winners are students from Beatrice Gilmore and Memorial Middle Schools:

Third Grade:

• Winner: Alexandra Pucci
• Honorable Mention: Haneen Hajbi

Fourth Grade:

• Winner: Cameron Rodriquez
• Honorable Mention: Sara Velkoska

Fifth Grade:

Sixth Grade:

Seventh Grade:

• Winner: Sebastian Gomez
• Honorable Mentions: Kamila Wszolkowski, Layla DeLuca

Eighth Grade:

• Honorable Mention: Tori Hackett

The following students were winners at the Passaic County level:

• Class I (Grades 3 and 4): Alexandra Pucci
• Class II (Grades 5 and 6): Laura Rogacki
• Class III (Grades 7 and 8): Ava Quintero and Sebastian Gomez

All county winners' essays have moved on for consideration at the state level. Special congratulations go to Beatrice Gilmore third-grader Alexandra Pucci, who was named the winner for the state.
