Highway patrol car hits car after high-speed chase in Johnston County

A high-speed chase ended in a crash overnight in Johnston County.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the chase started just before 12 a.m. on I-40 near the 320 and 322-mile marker.

A trooper attempted to pull over a Dodge Challenger, but the driver Lamine Mckenly Lo, 26, of Raeford, sped off when the trooper got out of his vehicle.

Authorities said Lo then exited I-40 onto I-95 heading south and then tried to take exit 79. Speeds reached 100 miles per hour.

Troopers said Lo's vehicle then ran off the road to the left on the exit ramp and hit a guardrail before flipping. The patrol car then hit the car, unable to avoid it.

There were no reported injuries.

The Lo was arrested and taken to the Johnston County Detention Center. A woman who was also inside the Challenger was detained but later released.

He is charged with felony flee to elude arrest, possession of stolen motor vehicle, failed to heed blue lights and siren, and multiple other misdemeanors including speeding and reckless driving.

Highway patrol said the Challenger and license plate were reported stolen.
