    Yadkin County Retired School Personnel announce scholarship winners

    The Yadkin County Retired School Personnel gives the Fred C. Hobson Scholarship each year to a senior planning to major in Education at Forbush High School and Starmount High School. The amount of the scholarship this year is $1,000. The scholarship is named after a former longtime superintendent who served as the Yadkin County Schools superintendent from 1939 to 1971. He was interested in students who worked to make their communities a better place.

    The Forbush High School recipient this year is Ava Charlotte Small. She is the daughter of David and Charlotte Small. She was a junior marshal and an honor graduate. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is active in her church. She has participated in many church mission activities during her high school career. Ava plans to go to Appalachian State University in the fall.

    The Starmount High School recipient this year is Ella Julieann Vanhoy. She is the daughter of Alisa Vanhoy. Ella was a member of the Student Council throughout her high school years and was a junior marshal. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and several other clubs. She has participated in many church activities and is the lead singer in a gospel singing group. Ella plans to attend Surry Community College in the fall.
