Harvest Moon sells out first showing in five seasons, breaks other attendance records

GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — A drive-in theatre in Ford County is amazed at the community’s support while they break multiple business records.

In the past nine days, Harvest Moon Twin Drive-in Theater in Gibson City has announced three achievements: one of the busiest weekends the theatre has seen post-“Barbie” (despite the heat), the largest weeknight crowd in decades, and a sold out full-capacity show Saturday, June 22 — for the first time since 2019.

“Wow is all we can say,” officials wrote on the Harvest Moon Facebook page.

Harvest Moon officials thanked the movie-going public for their patronage and giving them hope for the future, as well as their staff for working hard through consecutive busy nights.

“We’ve been here 35 years and this past week felt more like movie going in the 90’s than ever before,” they said.

One film playing at Harvest Moon, “Inside Out 2,” has been a smash hit at the box office . It officially became 2024’s highest-grossing film over the weekend, and is expected cross the billion-dollar mark.

Many national movie theater chains have also seen record success during this period. AMC noted the weekend of June 14-16 was their most viewed weekend in 2024, which they cited was largely due to “Inside Out 2” and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die”. Regal also said “Inside Out 2” had the second-highest weekend box office total for an animated movie in their company’s history.
