HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Community members are reacting after a shooting in Henrico injured at least five people over the weekend.

According to the Henrico County Police Division, around 11:15 p.m. On Saturday, June 22, officers were called to the 11000 block of Old Washington Highway for a reported shooting.

Originally, police reported six adult victims had been found with non-life-threatening injuries. However, on Monday, June 24, another release clarified that a sixth victim had been reported but was “unconfirmed at this time.”

“The [five] individuals that were transported with various non-life-threatening injuries continue to receive treatment for their injuries sustained from the shooting,” a police spokesperson said in the release.

Hunton Baptist Church Secretary Lillian Brown said it’s her first time hearing of something like this.

“There’s not really much that happens around this area,” Brown said. “So, I don’t know why people are doing crazy stuff like that around this area.”

8News also spoke with a man in the area who wished to remain anonymous. He said he walks his dogs almost every day at the park nearby and that things like this are becoming far too common.

“You have to have situational awareness. You have to,” he said. “It’s no longer just to get out of the car and lollygag along. Like I get out, I look back, then I look around.”

Brown said that instead of fearing the worst, she hopes the community will use a different approach to respond to this shooting.

“Fight back with love and, like, helping people, especially people that have trouble going outside. I think a lot of people will respond positively,” Brown said.

Shortly after police arrived at the scene on Sunday, June 23, two persons of interest were reportedly detained.

It’s unclear if all five victims were shot during this incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Henrico County Police Division at 804-501-5000.
