Coffee Sold In Arizona Recalled Due To Risk Of Possible 'Deadly Toxin'

Several brands of coffee sold around the country have been recalled due to the risk of a possible "deadly toxin."

Wisconsin-based Snapchill LLC has issued a voluntary recall of all its canned coffee products after it was determined "their current process could lead to the growth and production of the deadly toxin, botulinum toxin, in low acid canned foods," according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration .

The recalled products were distributed nationwide to coffee roasters and retail locations and were also sold online through direct purchase from Snapchill. The products include several different roasters and brand names, have any expiration date, range in size from 7 ounce to 12 ounce metal cans, and can be identified from the "Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC" label under the nutrition facts panel. The identifier "Snapchill Coffee" is also listed on the label of some of the affected products.

According to the FDA, botulism is a "potentially fatal form of food poisoning" with symptoms beginning anywhere from six hours to two weeks after consuming products with the toxin. Symptoms include general weakness, dizziness, double-vision, trouble speaking or swallowing, difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, abdominal distension and constipation. If you are experiencing any symptoms, seek medical treatment immediately.

Consumers are urged to destroy the recalled products or return them to the point of purchase for a refund. As of time of the recall, no illnesses have been reported.
