Travis was flying in a private Learjet plane from Columbia, South Carolina, to Los Angeles with his assistant, Chris Baker, security guard, Charles “Che” Still, and best friend, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein.
The plane ended up suffering an emergency during take-off, and Chris and Che both died in the crash alongside both of the plane’s pilots, James Bland and Sarah Lemmon.
DJ AM survived the crash, but died a year later.
Over the years, Travis has spoken at length about the trauma of the incident, revealing that his “whole body lit up” after he accidentally jumped into the jet while trying to escape the plane from the emergency exit door.
He ended up being hospitalized for 11 weeks and underwent 27 separate surgeries and skin grafts after suffering third-degree burns on 65% of his body.

In addition to the physical injuries, Travis’s mental health suffered from both the trauma of the crash and survivor’s guilt. At one point, he said that he had such bad PTSD he couldn’t even walk down the street if there was a plane in the sky, and he didn’t fly again for 13 years.

In August 2021, Travis credited his now-wife Kourtney Kardashian Barker with helping him overcome his fear when he shared a photo of them kissing in front of a private jet and wrote: “With you anything is possible.”
Since then, he has flown dozens of times , and he and Kourtney even got married abroad back in 2022.
However, in this week’s episode of The Kardashians , Kourtney revealed that Travis understandably still has some anxiety about flying as she explained why she wouldn’t be joining the family’s trip to Aspen.
In case you didn’t know, Kourtney and Travis welcomed their first child together, a son named Rocky, in November, and the trip was scheduled for January.

While Kourtney was invited to bring Rocky on the otherwise child-free getaway, she said that “protective” Travis wasn’t comfortable with them taking the two-hour flight without him.
When asked by her mom, Kris Jenner, if she’d made her mind up about the trip, Kourtney said: “I don’t think I can, I just think it’s a lot for me.”
“Well, you could bring your boobs and a nanny,” Kris initially reasoned, to which Kourtney revealed that she didn’t have a nanny for Rocky yet and had been taking care of him herself.
Kourtney then poked fun at how much Travis worries about Rocky as she explained: “Travis is, like, protective of the baby. Even when we walk down the street, he’s like: ‘Bring security, there’s loose dogs, and there’s coyotes, and there’s mountain lions!’”

As Kris laughed, Kourtney pointedly added: “So I think he feels the same way about me getting on a plane without him… For the first flight.”
Kris immediately understood the implication and quickly validated Travis’s fear, saying: “I get it.”
She also refrained from trying to pressure Kourtney into changing her mind.
Interestingly, Kylie Jenner was also planning to go and even boarded the private jet that was flying the family there before panicking over the plane’s safety.
She ended up disembarking the aircraft shortly before take-off after being struck with crippling anxiety that something bad was going to happen.
Meanwhile, baby Rocky took his first flight with both Kourtney and Travis in February. They spent the month in Australia while Travis was touring the country with his band Blink-182.
The Kardashians can be streamed on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally.
