Salmon is being recalled in 15 states due to Listeria concerns.

Another food recall has people checking their fridges and freezers.

Foppen Seafood is recalling some of its smoked salmon because testing revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in lot 412. The implicated smoked salmon is sold in Kroger and Payless Supermarkets across 15 states.

    What We Know

If you have bought salmon from either of these stores in the last few weeks, you can check to see if it's being recalled by looking for the following information on the packages.

The recalled salmon was produced under the name Foppen Smoked Norwegian Salmon Slices – Toast-sized. It features the UPC: 8 40137 10000 2 and it comes in 8.1-ounce package sizes. The stamp LOT 412 can be found in the clear plastic window cut out on the front of the package.

It was distributed by Kroger and Payless Supermarkets in AL, AR, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MI, MO, MS, OH, SC, TN, TX, and WV.

    What To Do

Consumers should discard the product or return it for a refund. Customers who have purchased the affected Smoked Norwegian Salmon Slices with lot number 412 are advised not to consume the product. They should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or replacement, no receipt is necessary.

For any questions or concerns, consumers may contact Foppen Seafood office USA at 844-646-0928 (24/7) or mail supportQ1087@foppenseafood.com.

Currently, there is a massive recall of hundreds of products due to Listeria outbreaks that have lasted for years, causing hundreds of illnesses and even deaths.

If you do have one of the impacted products in your home, it's best to sanitize your cooking surfaces and fridge with bleach and water to stop the spread.

    About Listeria Infections

Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause severe and sometimes life-threatening infections. Anyone who has eaten any recalled product and developed symptoms of Listeria infection should seek medical treatment and tell their doctors about possible Listeria exposure.

If you have eaten the recalled smoked salmon you should monitor yourself for symptoms during the coming weeks. It can take up to 70 days after exposure for symptoms to develop.

Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness.

Pregnant women, the elderly, young children, and people who have weakened immune systems are particularly at risk of serious illnesses, life-threatening infections, other complications, and death.
