PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — It’s a mostly sunny morning with temperatures in the upper-60’s across the Piedmont.

Later today, clouds will be gradually increasing and there is a 20% chance of showers, mainly in our western counties.

Highs are going to warm up to the upper-80’s with a heat index in the lower-90’s.

Overnight, clouds stay put and temperatures stay mild.  Lows will be in the lower-70’s.

Over the weekend, highs will rise to the lower-90’s again and the humidity will bring our heat index back to the mid-to upper-90s!

Rain chances remain near 20% on Saturday, but on Sunday, an approaching cold front is going to push the chance of showers and thunderstorms to 50%.

The Storm Prediction Center has the FOX8 viewing area at a Level 1/Marginal Risk of severe weather on Sunday.  The main threats from Sunday’s storms will be from damaging winds and large hail.

After the front crosses the Piedmont, a refreshing airmass is going to slide in on Monday and Tuesday.

The humidity will be noticeably lower, and temperatures will dip into the mid-80s.  Enjoy that break from the summertime heat and humidity because Wednesday and Thursday bring highs back to the lower-to-mid-90s.  Rain chances will stay at or below 20% for next week.
