Southwest Michigan Men Arrested in Connection to Kalamazoo County Murder

Van Buren County, Mich. – In a significant breakthrough, the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department has announced the arrests of two men from southwest Michigan in connection with the murder of 33-year-old Lashaun Keith. Keith’s body was discovered on November 3, 2022, in a field in Geneva Township, Van Buren County.

Despite the body being found in Van Buren County, detectives determined that Keith was assaulted and killed in Kalamazoo County. His body was subsequently transported to Geneva Township, complicating the investigation.

"After a thorough investigation, two suspects were ultimately developed," stated the Michigan State Police. The comprehensive final report, bolstered by forensic evidence, was reviewed by the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor's Office, which authorized and issued arrest warrants for the suspects.

Bryan Christopher Wimbley, 29, from Hartford, and Zachary Stephen Trainor, 22, from Watervliet, were both arrested on charges of open murder. Trainor faces an additional charge for the unauthorized removal of a body.

Wimbley was apprehended on June 18, while Trainor was arrested on June 22. Both suspects have been arraigned in the 8th District Court of Kalamazoo and are currently held in the Kalamazoo County Jail.

This case highlights the collaborative efforts between the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department and the Michigan State Police, aiming to bring justice to the tragic death of Lashaun Keith.
