NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The price for Connecticut’s Passport to the Parks part of your vehicle registration is going up $3 this year.

The $5 annual fee is now $8. Under the program, anyone with a vehicle registered in Connecticut can park for free at state parks and forests.

It’s caused a boost in attendance, according to Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, who said parks have gone from 11 million before the pandemic, to 17 million.

“So, that’s why we need that small increase, because our parks are so well loved, it needs more upkeep, more maintenance,” she said.
