    Chesterfield police still seeking suspect in the 2013 shooting of 7-year-old boy

    CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Chesterfield County Police Department continues to seek the public’s assistance in solving a homicide that took place over ten years ago involving the death of a 7-year-old boy.

    On July 4, 2013, Chesterfield County residents were saddened by the loss of 7-year-old Brendon Mackey .

    According to police, Brendon and his father were out at an annual fireworks display at Swift Creek Reservoir when Bredon was hit by a bullet in front of the Boathouse Restaurant.

    Police said they believe the bullet that hit Brendon was randomly fired in the air.

    Since this tragic incident, Brendon’s Law was put in place to make the act of celebratory gunfire that results in injury as a felony.
