OTW 170 – No Small Parks, Only Small Batters

It’s officially halfway through the season, with the majority of MLB teams having completed at least 80 out of 162 games. Most teams have established roles within their teams, however in some situations teams are pulling guys up to assume places in their lineup. These exciting shiny new toys are thrust into action (yes, even Heston Kjerstad – though it took a second call-up) to sink or swim at the MLB level. Some will earn their keep (and an inflated FAAB bid) while others will flop and flounder in their first few weeks of action and make us all wish we had spent our budgets more wisely. With several exciting call-ups this week, it’s time to sort out the noise and find the right guys for our squads.

2024 MLB Week 14 FAAB Insights

A big night for the Texas Rangers was punctuated by a Wyatt Langford 3-run HR in the top of the 8th inning that not only cemented the team’s 11-2 victory but also meant that the rookie had hit for the 11th cycle in team history. The 4th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, Langford struggled for the first few months of the season while also dealing with injuries. However, over his last 15 games, he has started to figure it out, hitting .309/.377/.582 with 3 HRs. 2024 hasn’t gone exactly as the defending World Series champs would have hoped, but if they are going to fight their way back into the playoff picture, Langford is going to have to continue progressing toward living up to his high expectations.
