    1994

July 3, 1994: “Joan Richardson wins golf invitational”

The Pokegama Women’s Golf Invitational started with a sprinkling of rain for the second year in a row Tuesday, June 28, and during the day 120 participants were seen repeatedly donning rain gear, only to dispose of it a short time later.

Though a great deal of casual water was visible on the course, the ladies persevered and completed the 18-hole event.

Joan Richardson, representing Pokegama, evidently didn’t notice any of the adverse conditions as she shot a 40-35 for a 75-stroke total which was only one over par. Second and third place finishers in the championship flight, Tricia Wollack of Cloquet and Jea Hall of Pokegama, didn’t fare as well, scoring 87 and 88 respectively.
