The popular Shrine Ridge Trail located near the scenic Vail Pass Summit is set to be closed most of the week throughout summer.

According to the US Forest Service, the trail will be closed Monday through Friday from July 8 to September 8 due to "much-needed trail maintenance." Crews will be installing culverts along the trail and elevating hiking surfaces in order to keep water off the trail. Heavy machinery will be present, with the closure in place for the safety of the public and the safety of those working on the trail.

An additional weekend closure will be in place from September 7 to 8.

The improvements on Shrine Ridge Trail are part of a two-year project, with access to the popular trail also impacted last summer with a similar closure.

“This popular trail was in need of significant repairs, and we appreciate the public’s patience as we complete work to create a more enjoyable and sustainable trail for many years to come,” said Deputy Dillon District Ranger Amanda Wheelock. "Those interested in finding another trail to enjoy in the meantime are welcome to call or stop by our offices or visit www.fs.usda.gov/whiteriver ."

Shrine Ridge Trail is especially popular thanks to being easy to access via I-70, found in the heart of Colorado's central mountains. It provides sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, about 4.5 miles long round trip with around 1,000 feet of vertical gain, according to AllTrails .
