Independence Day celebrations around Crenshaw

As Independence Day approaches, many towns around Crenshaw County are preparing 4th of July celebrations for citizens to enjoy.

Brantley

The first 4th of July celebration of the day can be found in Brantley, where citizens are organizing their 35th annual 4th of July parade. The parade will start at Brantley High School at 9 a.m. on July 4.

During the parade , event organizers request that participants wear red, white and blue clothing to celebrate the spirit of the day.

Rutledge
The town of Rutledge will celebrate the day beginning at 10 a.m on July 4, with activities and a parade at 1727 Lee Street.

“I’ve done my best to make the celebration more geared towards activities and things for children to do,” said Lisa Michele, one of the organizers for the Rutledge celebration. “My goal was for people to come out and to be able to do something and not have to spend a lot of money.”

During the celebration, there will be vendors, games and activities such as face painting, a mobile arcade and inflatable slides. Also at this time, the lineup for the parade will begin. Event organizers encourage everyone to attend, whether they ride a small tricycle or a big truck, and ride around the town.

“I’m excited that we’re having it again, and I hope everybody comes out and has fun,” said Beth Rodgers, one of the organizers and original founder of the celebration. “You don’t have to be from Rutledge, anybody that wants to come is welcome to join us.”

Magnolia Shores

Near Highland Home, a 4th of July celebration will be free to the public at Magnolia Shores on July 4 starting at 2 p.m. During the day, vendors and a swimming area will be open, along with games starting at 3 p.m.

At dark, the community will be setting off thousands of dollars worth of fireworks for the public to enjoy. Free admission has been made possible through community donations and sponsorships from local businesses.

Luverne

With many events happening on the holiday itself, some celebrations will be happening in the days afterwards.

For example, the City of Luverne is planning their Independence Day Hometown Fireworks Show for July 5 at Turner Park. The fireworks show will begin at dark. The event is free and open to the public.

In the event of rain, the fireworks show will be rescheduled to July 6.
