New York Giants offensive line receives horrid ranking for 2024 NFL season from Pro Football Focus

The New York Giants offensive line showed more inconsistencies in 2023. Andrew Thomas was the sole, overall bright spot throughout the season. He's emerged as a potential Pro Bowl left tackle.

As for the other spots, there is a bit more unknown. Where does the Giants unit rank around the NFL?

Pro Football Focus has been ranking position groups around the NFL during the offseason. Their latest rankings are for OL groups around the league.

Giants OL ranked 29th in the NFL by PFF

The Giants' offensive line was among the NFL's worst in 2023, partially due to injuries. While they brought in a couple of new players in Jermaine Eluemunor and Jon Runyan to start at guard, they need their returners to improve drastically.

Center John Michael Schmitz Jr. , a second-round pick in 2023, and right tackle Evan Neal , a top-10 pick in 2022, have been disappointing so far. Even left tackle Andrew Thomas staying healthy and getting back to his 2022 form wouldn't make up for poor performances from the other young players on the line in 2024. -- Zoltán Buday , PFF

The additions by New York are a bit intriguing to me. Runyan can be a solid player inside for the Giants, and I believe he is a scheme fit. He must stay healthy, though. When he has played over the past two years, he's played well.

Eluemunor is a veteran that has inside and outside experience on the OL. He's never held down a role for a team in the long-term, but New York is hoping for him to plug the hole at left guard.

John Michael Schmitz may be the biggest question mark for the Giants unit. He's young, but 2023 did not show too much to instill confidence. That being said, having veterans around him on the interior could lend itself well for the young center. The Giants cannot afford to give up on him at the start of year two.

Evan Neal has been a bit of a rough situation for the Giants since his draft selection. Many folks believed that he was the top tackle prospect in his class and a potential Pro Bowler in the making for his NFL career. That has not been the case so far. He's dealt with injuries and disappointed when he has played.

Overall, I would say the ranking makes a lot of sense from PFF. New York simply does not have much proven upside along their offensive line.

Somehow, their floor is low, and the ceiling for the group is not relatively high, either. That's never a good sign for a position group in the NFL.
