Former GM: This AFC Team Should Cut Dak Prescott A ‘Blank Check’

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has seemingly done everything in his power this offseason to prepare fans for life without quarterback Dak Prescott.

Jones appears content letting Prescott play out the final season of his four-year, $160 million deal and playing things by ear in regard to discussing a new contract.

But if Prescott reaches free agency like many expect him to next offseason, former New York Jets general manager-turned-ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum believes there’s one team that should go all in on signing him.

“If I’m Mark Davis, the owner of the Raiders, I have a countdown clock in my office and that plane is fueled and ready to go,” Tannenbaum said . “And I’m giving Dak Prescott a blank check to go with Brock Bowers and Davante Adams.”

Logically, the Raiders would be an opportune landing spot for Prescott.

Their hodgepodge QB room of Aidan O’Connell, Gardner Minshew and Anthony Brown likely won’t yield many positive results in 2024, and they could be in the market for a new passer.

Prescott, who turns 31 in a little over three weeks, is a proven commodity. A three-time Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro selection last season, Prescott has three 4,000-yard, 30-touchdown seasons under his belt, and he’s coming off arguably the best year of his career.

The Mississippi State alum threw for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2023 with a career-best 105.9 passer rating.

Adams turns 32 in December, and if the Raiders want to maximize the years he has left, plus give Bowers a Pro Bowl passer to work with, Davis just might fork over the $53.1M-per-year salary Spotrac projects that it would take to sign Prescott.
