JEFFERSON COUNTY, OHIO (WTRF) – With the new school year approaching, Buckeye Local Schools will have some extra security this fall.

For the first time in history, a dedicated resource officer will be present in each of the district’s 4 building.

During Monday’s regular school board meeting, officials entered into a agreement with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Wells Township Police Department.

Longtime Deputy Rodney Roe will return as district school resource officer, and another deputy will serve at Buckeye Local High School–while two more will be stationed at Buckeye South and West Elementary Schools.

A Wells Township police officer will also work at Buckeye North Elementary.

“We had a few teachers retire and we didn’t replace, so we had a little flexibility with our finances that we wanted to make sure we made a difference with each building, and bringing on a school resource officer is that first line of safety for our students and staff.”

Coy Sudvary – Superintendent of Buckeye Local Schools

“Man, we’re excited. It’s really a great opportunity to make sure we’re one step closer to being very, very safe at our school.”

Chief Sean Norman – Wells Township Police Department

There are approximately 1,400 students across the 4 Buckeye Local School district buildings.
