CASSAPOLIS — A Lenawee Christian High School senior student was one of among four Michigan students to receive funding through Midwest Energy and Communications’ annual college scholarship program.

Alexandra Prater was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from MEC in recognition of her academic achievements, leadership and community involvement.

Scholarship applicants were told to select one of MEC’s three main services — electric, propane and fiber internet — and film a commercial promoting it using whatever creative and artistic touches they could think of, an announcement from MEC said. Children of MEC employees and board members were not eligible to apply.

Prater is a child of MEC customers. To view each of the student winning videos, visit teammidwest.com/about-us/community/scholarships/2024-scholarship-winners.

At LCS, Prater participated in gymnastics and National Honor Society. She also tutored fellow students and volunteered for the school’s annual dinner and auction to support academic scholarships and special projects.

Outside of school, according to MEC, Prater volunteered at the local humane society and the Devils Lake Festival for the Arts. She has worked as a youth gymnastics coach and as a dishwasher.

She plans to study political science at the University of Alabama.
